FAQs on Company Registration / GST Registrations Questions

Q. What is the time limit for taking registration under GST?

A. An entity liable to be registered under GST should apply for registration under GST within 30 days from the date on which the entity becomes liable to register for GST. Casual taxable persons and non-resident taxable persons are required to be registered under GST, prior to commencing business.

Q. What is aggregate turnover as per GST?

A. The “Aggregate Turnover” means total turnover of a person having the same PAN in respect of the following:

All taxable supplies including interstate supplies
Exempt supplies
Exports of goods and/or service

Q. Who is liable to register under GST?

A. Supplier engaged in providing a taxable supply of goods or services or both is required to obtain GST registration in the State or Union territory from where the supply is initiated, in case the aggregate turnover exceeds INR 40 Lakhs in a financial year.

Q. A person without GST registration can claim ITC and collect tax?

A. No. A person without GST registration can neither collect GST from his customers nor claim any input tax credit of GST paid by him.

Q. PAN card number is mandatory under GST registration?

A. Yes. PAN is mandatory for normal taxpayers and casual taxable persons to be registered under GST. However, PAN is not mandatory for a non-resident taxable person for obtaining registration.

Q. Which persons are not liable for registration under GST?

A. Sec22 says that Every Supplier who makes taxable supply of goods or services or both if his aggregate turnover exceeds 40 Lakhs shall be liable to be registered under the GST act. However, if a person located in special category states the turnover is reduced to 10 lakhs.

Q. Is it compulsory to pay GST after registration?

A. In the GST Regime, businesses whose turnover exceeds Rs. 40 lakhs (Rs 10 lakhs for NE and hill states) is required to register as a normal taxable person. This process of registration is called GST registration. For certain businesses, registration under GST is mandatory.
